Lextran launches on-demand shared rides in Northwest Lexington

Lextran Connect brings app-based shared rides to Northwest Lexington, aiming to expand access to buses, jobs, health care and services locally. Lextran has launched Lextran Connect, a new on-demand public transit service in Northwest Lexington, using a mobile app and public transit technology provider Via. Riders can request a ride 20 to 30 minutes before they need to leave, with a driver meeting them at a designated location. Rides cost $3 per person, paid in the app when the trip is requested. If other passengers are going in the same direction, they may also be picked up and dropped off along the way. The City of Lexington funded the year-long pilot project. All Lextrans vehicles are wheelchair accessible and use vans that can hold up to four seated passengers and one wheelchair.
