Temperatures are expected to drop this weekend, but another warm spell is just around the corner.

According to a hazardous weather outlook issued by the National Weather Service in Wilmington, areas of frost are expected Sunday night into Monday morning, with temperatures near freezing in some areas. Below-normal temperatures will last through the beginning of the workweek.

Highs will be in the upper 50s today, about 5-7 degrees below seasonal norms. Highs on Saturday will range from the upper 50s to the mid-60s in the region, with lows in the 40s and upper 30s in some sheltered spots.

Temperatures will warm up by midweek and beyond, with highs reaching the 70s by Tuesday.

Expect widespread rain showers Friday morning and afternoon before drier conditions move into the region by Saturday morning. More light rain will return Saturday afternoon into the night before drier air returns Sunday into early next week.

Friday: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 1 p.m., then a chance of showers and thunderstorms between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., then a chance of showers after 3 p.m. High near 60.

Friday night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 43.

Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 65.

Sunday night: Patchy frost after 5 a.m. Otherwise, mostly clear, with a low around 37.

Monday: Patchy frost before 9 a.m. Otherwise, sunny, with a high near 64.

Tuesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 74.
