Branch was indicted by a Warren County grand jury on charges including murder of a first responder, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, and tampering with physical evidence. He is currently being held at the Warren County Regional Jail. KSP officials said Phillips, a Post 3 trooper, stopped a vehicle on Interstate 65 in Warren County before the occupant of the vehicle fatally shot him. Following an extensive search, Louisville Metro Police officers used location pings from Branch's cell phone and a database of license plate images and vehicle descriptions to arrest him within four hours of the shooting.
