Louisville honors people killed by domestic violence

A Louisville ceremony honored people killed by domestic violence as officials highlighted Kentucky’s high abuse rates, court cases and text-to-911 help. The Center for Women and Families in Louisville honored people whose lives were killed by domestic violence during a remembrance. The ceremony included speeches from families and advocates about the lasting effects of abuse, which can extend beyond survivors to families and generations. Among the families honored was the family of Iyanna Warr, who was shot and killed at Family Scholar House on August 23. The Commonwealth's Attorney for Jefferson County, Gerina Whethers, said her office handles about 5,000 domestic violence cases each year. Kentucky has one of the highest rates of intimate partner violence in the country, according to a 2025 report from the Kentucky Justice and Public Safety Cabinet. Mayor Craig Greenberg, D-Louisville, said the city’s text-to-911 tool has already helped 1,200 people since its launch earlier this year.
