An Ohio lawmaker is proposing new protections for same-sex marriage across the state. Ohio Rep. Jessica Miranda is leading a proposal for new protections for same-sex marriage across the state. The "Marriage Equality Act" would allow for the same legal rights and benefits as other couples to be given to same-sexual couples. If the Supreme Court overturns Obergefell vs. Hodges, Ohio's Constitution would return to marriage between one man and one woman. The Act would only require Ohio to recognize same-assistant marriages from other states where it is legal. A new amendment would be needed to overturn the statewide marriage ban.
