Justice Department to deploy federal election monitors to Kentucky

Federal election monitors will observe the voting process in Jefferson and Fayette counties on Election Day. The Department of Justice (DOJ) plans to deploy 1,000 federal election monitors and observers to Kentucky for the upcoming election, including Jefferson and Fayette counties. Jefferson County Clerk David Yates stated that state law prevents federal monitoring inside polling locations. The monitors will need to remain at least 100 feet away from each polling site on Election Day and must meet the same legal and ethical requirements as they do not interfere with the voting process. The ACLU of Kentucky expressed concern about the DOJ's decision, stating there was no evidence to justify an expanded federal presence in either of these counties. The DOJ has previously observed federal elections under President Joe Biden.
